Growing up in Southwest Missouri, and having strong ties to St. Louis is are reasons why I am a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. The other reason is growing up in my home it was religion.
My father’s view on the game of baseball was that there are 162 games a year in which we can sit and watch the gospel of the St. Louis Cardinals, or we could go to church where it is boring and we could go 104 times a year at the most.
I’m glad he chose the The Book of Musial, and on television they would re-enact all the great battles of old, because the game hasn’t changed much. Then they would go out and create new tales, like the story of one man overcoming an entire team like Chris Carpenter did during the 2011 NLCS, or just the story of one city’s team overcoming all obstacles to go on and win a World Series when everyone doubted them. Even though the Cardinals were down to their last strike 3 times.
The game of baseball, and the St. Louis Cardinals, has taught me many lessons on life, winning, and the pursuit of happiness. Greater than any drug, is the smell of Budweiser, brats, hot dogs, fresh-cut grass, and the view of the Arch just over the cityscape of St. Louis.
