Local Bars in the Whit!

Sam Bond’s Garage  Located in the heart of the Whiteaker neighborhood, check out this pub and café on 407 Blair St. Enjoy brewpub eats, a full bar, local and regional microbrews all while watching a unique variety of entertainment. Sam Bond’s has a stage tucked in the corner, where shows start at 9 p.m. on weekdays, 9:30 p.m. on weekends and around 8:30 p.m. on Sundays. There’s also Bingo on Monday nights, Bluegrass shows on Tuesdays, and the new Irish jam tradition on Sunday afternoons. Ninkasi Brewing Company Tasting Room  This local microbrew brewery can be found around the corner from Red Barn Natural Grocery on 272 Van Buren St. Buy a pint of beer or try a five beer sampler of seasonal and traditional beers on tap. There’s limited tasting room seating inside or enjoy the outside patio that’s equipped with a toasty fire pit. Soft pretzels, pastys, and soup are available to snack on. The hours of the tasting room are 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. from Sunday – Wednesday. From Thursday – Saturday, the tasting room is open until 10 p.m. Check Ninkasi out at http://www.ninkasibrewing.com/. C.J

Local Parks!

The Whiteaker neighborhood is home to a plethora of amazing parks and recreational sites. Maurie Jacobs Park is a very popular park within the Whiteaker neighborhood. Located on N. Polk St., it is parallel to the Willamette River and connected to a footbridge that leads to the north bank and the Valley River Center. Maurie Jacobs is a great place for a bike ride, soccer, or to spend the day with your family. It has multiple playgrounds located throughout the park and nice bike paths. If you’re looking to spend a relaxing day in the Whiteaker neighborhood, then check out Maurie Jacobs Park. H.E

The Red Barn Natural Grocery Store is a local  organic natural foods store located in the heart of the Whiteaker neighborhood. Located at 357 Van Buren, The Red Barn is one of the oldest natural foods stores in Eugene, Oregon. Established in 1982, The Red Barn utilizes locally grown products and offers grocery products to residents at a reasonable price. In return residents have the ability to shop locally and avoid traveling to far. Pizza Research Institute a.k.a PRI

PRI is a delicious pizza joint that can be found across from local Mexican food, El Pinche Taco on the corner of 5th and Blair. At PRI you can try a ton of different options, eight standard pizzas that come with things such as pear, vegan pesto, roasted red potatoes, feta, grilled zucchini, and so much more. Not only can you get vegan options you can also have gluten free pizza crust which is amazing and very hard to come by. On top of all of this, you can order Greek style which is a stand alone square pizza and have your choice of 5 different salads. Izakaya Meiji

Located at 345 Van Buren St. and opened daily from 5 p.m. – 1 a.m. Meiji offers authentic Japanese food and an amazing whiskey lounge. It is said to be a place for locals who want to socialize casually and participate in a cultural exchange. They have an extensive menu that comes with great drinks and a warm and friendly environment. The lighting puts you in the mood to hang with friends, go on a romantic date, or just be.
