Scattered between the many residential homes, the Amazon neighborhood is over-flowing with community social groups, recreational activities, and local businesses. Because it is such a nice spot to relax, work, and play, many reviews on such services do exist on websites like Things to Do In Amazon. Feel free to visit them when searching for things to do, places to eat, and things to see! But for now, you can start here:

While Amazon Neighborhood has more recreational activities than government and nonprofit services, Edison Elementary on East 22nd Ave. recently received a grant to begin a garden and composting project. With the $1,000, the students will have hands-on experience on the care and upkeeping of their local garden that will blend in with their school cirricula and other activities. Experienced gardeners in the neighborhood are encouraged to help with the care of the garden, which will reduce cafeteria waste and teach the students valuable lessons in growing food, recycling, and caring for the Earth. Located in the Amazon neighborhood is one of Eugene’s hot spots for pizza, pasta, baked goodies, coffee and bread. Everything is made fresh in their traditional wood-fire oven that uses recycled wood for the oven, and the bakers use local organic grains when available. Pizza nights for the family take place on the patio starting in the spring through the fall. Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hideaway Bakery hosts the farmer’s market. Regular store hours are Sunday-Monday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Tuesday-Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hideaway Bakery is located at 3377 E. Amazon Dr. Call for more information 541-686-1982. (HR)
