I have found that some of the most interesting and kind people hang out in “You Paint It” ceramic cafes. If you have never gone to one of these places, it is wonderful. You pick out a ceramic sculpture to paint (a mug, a bowl, a dragon, a piggy bank) and use the shop’s selection of glazes to paint it to your own liking. It always turns out great and it’s unique so it makes a personal present.
I was really excited when I saw that there was a place like this in Oakway Mall. I went in to talk to the girl working today. Her name is Jenny. I was considering using her for a subject, but she is studying history at UO. I talked to her for a little while and she told me about a few of the other people that work there. I now have two possible profile candidates. There is Eliza, the owner, and Vera, a 6-month pregnant woman who moved from the Czech Republic to the United States in the recent years. She has consistent hours and I could talk to the other people who work there for outside sources.
I will go later this week and talk to Vera to make sure that she would be willing to let me hang out with her for awhile and interview her.
