J 361 Introduction: Adam Holmes

My name is Adam Holmes, and I’m a junior majoring in journalism. I was born in Dallas, Texas, but I’ve lived in Oregon since I was four. I first became interested in journalism when I took an Intro to Publications class during my sophomore year of high school. This lead to joining my school’s newspaper during junior year. I gradually worked my way up to becoming the editor of the entertainment section, and by my senior year I was editor-in-chief. However, when I came to UO, my interest in journalism slowly started to gravitate towards electronic media. That’s when I joined Duck TV. After acting in several shows for three terms, I joined the news team, and this will be my third term doing it. I also recently joined the National Broadcasters Society. I’m still not sure what I want to do when I get out of college, but I’ve always had an interest at working at CNN or a talk show.

My interests outside of journalism are quite broad. I absorb most forms of media like a sponge. I’m what some people would consider a fanboy. I’ve been reading comic books since I was a child and over the past couple of years my interest in science-fiction has grown exponentially. I’ve also been interested in movies and television for as long as I can remember. This has resulted in being able to quote lines word-for-word and occasionally doing impressions of actors or characters. If journalism didn’t work out, I’d love to write or act for a television show. As far as books go, I’m currently reading the old Sherlock Holmes stories in an attempt to broader my mind with classic literature. That, and they’re really fun to read!

I’m eager to improve my journalistic skills during this class and take the next step towards finding out what my niche is.
