Food preparation and serving related occupations were one of the biggest forms of employment for the Eugene-Springfield area. The following facts and statistics help to enhance the importance of my feature story, which discusses developing businesses in the Whiteaker neighborhood.
The following is a brief overview of the Eugene-Springfield’s labor rankings.
– Workers in the Eugene-Springfield area had an average hourly wage of $18.94 during May 2009 (nationwide average was $20.90). (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
– When compared to the nationwide distribution, local employment was more highly concentrated in 7 of the 22 occupational groups, including food preparation and serving related; education, training, and library; and personal care and service. (Bureau of Labor Statistics)
