I somehow missed that another update was due on Sunday, whoops.
Anyway I have a couple updates on the progress of my story. I have decided to do a four part media package detailing the store, probably in this order: A profile of Jim Dotson detailing the importance of historic business stability to the infrastructure of local economy (from the non-photographers point of view). If I can manage to round up some historical photos then I will arrange them in a photo essay second. Next I will have a short featurette on the history and current status of the store as told by some of the current and former employees, local photographers, and Friendly residents. Next will be a photo essay of the store and the employees broken down into two parts: the storefront and the labs/backrooms. Lastly I will have a profile of former employee/professional art photographer Doug Fischer detailing his take on the importance of Dot Dotson’s and stable historic business in general (this is the one from the perspective of a photographer as a counter to Jim’s profile so the reader sees both angles)
I scored some interviews with local pro photographers/former employees and I plan on visiting the shop again today or tomorrow.
