Thinking Green: Environmental News

Spreading information about global warming, pollution, and recycling is crucial to resolving environmental issues around the world. There is an abundance of media outlets that cover these topics. My favorite blog on these issues is Grist, a very active voice in environmental journalism.

Among the more recognizable resources for information regarding the “green” movement are National Geographic Magazine, the New York Times Environmental Blog, and the Huffington Post Green Blog. An institutional resource on this topic is the United States Environmental Protection Agency. About.com also offers contemporary environmental news from around the globe.

Some of the major current events being covered by the media are the Gulf Oil Spill, the toxic sludge flood in Hungary, and the overfishing of our oceans.

For environmental news concerning Eugene and the state of Oregon, information can be found through non-profit organizations like Environment Oregon and SOLV.

One current environmental project in Oregon is the Great Pacific Cleanup– an effort to ban the use of plastic shopping bags in Oregon.
