Reubens and Fries

By: Ayan Jama

Cornucopia is a local favorite for residents of the Jefferson Westside Neighborhood (JWN). Locals here can enjoy classic Reuben’s, mason jars filled with homemade lemonade and crispy fries. Cornucopia’s menu features both vegetarian and meat lover options and has an extensive beer collection. Many of their meat options can be substituted for tempeh or tofu and vice versa, making this restaurant open to all food preferences.

“They have the best French fries in town, I won’t eat French fries anywhere else but here,” said UO Junior Tiffany Loanzon. “If you catch their happy hour you can even get micro pints for only $2.95, which is great for college students on a budget.”

Cornucopia also provides catering for weddings, corporate meetings or other events. Their catering site explains that they will also provide a full set of staff, delivery, on time step-up and efficient clean up. And for those of you who don’t have time to plan your special occasion, Cornucopia will even help you with event planning and wedding cakes.

Some residents find Cornucopia to be a pleasant and relaxed eating experience. Although the restaurant is smaller, it provides a cozy and intimate setting for family and friends. It’s a great hole in the wall where the resident of the area feel at ease coming into on a Wednesday or Thursday to grab a drink and a bite to eat.

“Although the food can be messy, I would totally go on a first date here. The lighting is low and romantic and sets the perfect mood for a night out,” said Megan Roether another UO student.

On games days during the Fall Cornucopia is jammed packed with families and students trying to get a bite before kickoff. Their breakfast options are quickly delivered and lines last less then 15 minutes. For many students time is of the essence and long lines result in back row seats in Autzen Stadium. So next time you’re in the Jefferson Westside area stop by Cornucopia and check out their Reuben with fries, it’s a favorite of the locals.
