Homework for Weekend after Week 5

Here’s the homework!

  • Of course, you should be studying for the MIDTERM: 15 short-answers worth 2 points apiece, like the example post; 4 short essays (5 points apiece) about journalism in the digital age, using the Internet and URLs; 20-point AP Style Quiz [A-Z]; 30-point go-out-with-neighborhood-group-and-do-news-story piece.
  • Media analysis due Sunday by 11:59 p.m.: Find a long narrative story, using the Twitter account @longreads, and analyze how the author wrote the story
  • Neighborhood blog post, due Monday by 11:59 p.m.: Either a restaurant/cafe/bar story/review or a review of a band playing in a neighborhood venue

[The image in this post is a CC-licensed photo by Flickr user ecastro. And please, it’s a joke. You’ll be well-prepared for this midterm if you’ve been reading the book, if you have your AP Style book and if you are ready to think about the news AND write the news. You know, it will be fine.]
