Sundance Natural Foods was one of the first places that we spotted on our tour of the Amazon neighborhood. We ventured a little farther into the neighborhood only to return back to the market. The first thing I noticed when we entered was the smell. I am not sure how to describe it, but it just has that “organic” sent. Something you would never encounter at Safeway or Albertsons. We all noted how similar it is to the Friendly Street Market. Sundance carries the same kinds of off-brand products as Friendly Street Market. There is also a large vitamin section, where they actually let you sample some of the products. Kayla tried a Vitamin D, since we are normally lacking that in Eugene, except for the last couple of days.
One of the most appealing aspects about the market is the large produce section. It seemed that there was any vegetable or fruit that you can possibly imagine. In the center of the produce section there was a stand full of different types of oranges. I was amazed at how many types they offered. The market has a lot of character. Their price labels are hand made with nice drawings accompanying the name of the product. Hanging from one of the beams near the register is a large “Peace” flag, along with other decorative flags and artwork.
At the end of one of the isles there is a corkboard that allows customers to post comments and suggestions. It really shows you how much they care about their customers and how hard they work to make them satisfied. Along with the posted comments on the board, there were three rings filled with older comments. Besides having the regular staple foods, the market offers a lot of bulk products. I noticed these large white tubs resting near the bulk section, and I was curious as to what they contained. It turns out they were each filled with different kinds of butter, such as peanut butter and almond butter. I had never seen such a large quantity of peanut butter or knew that it was possible to purchase it in that manner.
The prices are a little higher than what you would find at other markets, but the atmosphere and options make up for that minor detail.
