Whiteaker Loses Papa.

I had heard that Papa, of Papa’s Soul Food Kitchen: Southern Style BBQ and Blues Joint, 400 Blair Blvd,  had passed away earlier in the week. I decided to stop by the kitchen and record the loss of a neighborhood icon.

An old review in “Eugene Weekly” by Steven Sawada, said Papa’s has “soul food ‘so good  it will make you wanna slap yo mama.'”

It was a rainy gloomy day when I drove out to Papa’s.

The kitchen had been turned into a makeshift memorial.

Even the kitchen’s myspace is filled with condolences.

People left cards, flowers, and memories.

It is clear that Papa touched many lives and will truly be missed.
