I was hanging out in the Cal Young neighborhood today, looking for something newsworthy to report on, and I realized that this area has a lot more to offer than I once thought. There’s the Oakway Center, which has dozens of upscale stores and businesses not found elsewhere in Eugene, and there’s also the Sheldon Plaza, offering shopping for more everyday kind of items.
The Oakway Center boasts more than meets the eye, with a day-spa, several restaurants, jewelers and retail boutiques galore. There’s even Uva, a new wine bar open Tuesday-Sunday from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and welcomes minors who want to join their 21-and-over peers for some ambience, sans wine-tasting.
In addition to shopping and dining, the Cal Young area offers numerous parks and recreation sites, and is one of the most bus-friendly neighborhoods in Eugene, as the 12, 67 and 79x routes all frequently make stops in this area.
So, though it isn’t one of the most exciting places to be, there is plenty to do and see for entertainment in this quaint neighborhood. Especially if one seeks to spend some money.
