Eugene’s Delta Ponds is located in the Goodpature neighborhood. This 150-acre waterway has numerous associated riparian areas, channels, ponds and wetlands. Delta Ponds is under ownership of the City of Eugene who recently completed a large restoration project for the floodplains.
In 2004, the City was awarded the Cooperative Conservation Initiative Vegetation Management Grant that covered $389,000 of the cost. This federal funding along with a matched contribution of approximately $289,000 and $100,000 in City Stormwater had made the restoration efforts possible.
The focus of the project was to remove invasive plant species and animals as well as clearing barriers that blocked the natural flow of water from the Willamette river.
The result is enhanced habitats for rare wildlife as well as an improvement for recreational sight seeing in this area.
