Food for Lane County started its Summer Food Program on Monday June 28, 2010 at more than 60 locations across Lane County. The program is for children and youth 18 years and younger and provides free meals in order to eliminate hunger and help feed low-income families in the county.
Justine Lee, a Summer Food Site Supervisor, handed out hamburgers to a crowd of around twenty people at the Sheldon Village apartments on Willakenzie Road across from Sheldon High School in Eugene. “Because of summer and school being out, we are trying to bridge the gap for kids who no longer get their one meal a day at school,” Justine says. “They are having us come out and feed them.”
